We must do more than just celebrate the East Coast, we must pay it forward.
Born a Jersey Girl, I am also a certifiable New Yorker, having lived in New York City for 13 years. These places are more than just my home, they are my heart and soul. There are moments when the enchantment of the Meadowlands, the urban industrial landscapes, the suburban utopia where Matt and I grew up, and of course, the Jersey Shore, have been the only thing that has gotten me through, or kept me going. There have been moments when the enchantment of old New York, its architecture, and fire escapes, and cobblestone roads, have been the only thing that has gotten me through. The hikes Matt and I take in our home state, the events we go to and our museum outings in New York – these are things we cherish so deeply.
New Jersey and New York City have been an incomparable inspiration throughout my life and they have taught me everything I know – often the hard way. So New York City’s history, and as a painter, New Jersey’s nature, are invaluable to me and have an enormous place in my heart. While we are a tiny label, contributing a portion of our proceeds to the places I call home would be the most I could give and the least I could do.
After exploring a number of non-profits, the Historic House Trust and New Jersey Conservation Foundation stood out to me. They are active, optimistic, and doing a beautiful job at celebrating, cherishing, and protecting some of the best parts of the East Coast.
Therefor, Fairmount Laundry is proud to say we will begin donating 3% of all proceeds to environment and historic preservation in New York City and New Jersey, with hopes to increase that percentage over time.
Your purchases officially make a difference, not only in our lives, but to the East Coast itself.
Thank you,
