Poppies symbolize Fantastic Extravagance in the Victorian language of flowers. With their crushed scarlet petals, there is something about how rich and coquettish they are that makes them seemingly magnetic. Blood red. They are perhaps God’s most seductive flower. Poppies can make you sleepy too – enough splendor to knock you out. Says Opium. They’re easy on the senses. Easy on the eyes. Lovely to touch. And smell. Little scarlet wonders who worship the sun. Shimmering lavishly in the light. Each inspiring their own tiny, little savageries. John Frederick Lewis’ 1865 painting, ‘In The Bey’s Garden’ shows us a girl who’s quietly wandering around a secret garden. There are many poppies. The painting is described as ‘an enchanted pleasure ground – a world removed from the strict moralistic society of the Victorians.’ John Ruskin describes poppies perfectly in his book of studies of wayside flowers, Prosperpina: “It is an intensely simple, intensely floral flower. All silk and flame, a scarlet cup. Like a burning coal fallen from heaven’s altars.” So red. The color of violence, of blood, of eroticism. And yet, so soft. So heavenly. Oh, Dorothy. Wake up.

Wear the Poppy tank to inspire fantastic extravagance. A surreal kind of seduction. Wear it to be transported to a place where all that is forbidden is far gone and forgotten. The poppy is a flower for a plush, for a lush, for an ethereal siren.
